Who this is for
Firms that provide accountancy, bookkeeping, tax or payroll services to other people. gov.uk calls them accountancy service providers.
Checked on 18 October 2026. Source: gov.uk, accountancy service provider registration.
gov.uk says these businesses may have to register with HMRC under the money laundering regulations. It lists the following as accountancy service providers:
- auditors who carry out statutory audit work
- accountants who provide accountancy services to clients
- tax advisers and consultants who advise clients about their tax affairs
- payroll agents that provide accountancy services or tax advice
gov.uk adds that providers working virtually or through an automated service still need to carry out customer due diligence.
Other businesses can use the same services to get their own internal controls written down and working.
This page describes what we do. It is not legal advice. For what the regulations require of your firm, read the gov.uk guidance or ask your AML supervisor.

What we help with
Four services. You can ask for one or all of them.
AML compliance and risk management
Help putting your firm’s anti-money-laundering arrangements in place and keeping them current. That means written policies, how you check who your clients are, and how you record what you did.
Risk management means finding where the firm could be exposed and deciding what to do about each point.
Risk assessments
A written assessment of where your firm or your clients could be used for money laundering, or where things could go wrong in other ways, and what you do about each.
We help you update it as your clients and services change.
Internal controls
The checks that catch mistakes and misuse: who can approve what, how records get reviewed, and how the firm notices when something is wrong.
We help you write them down and check that people follow them.
HMRC correspondence
Letters, notices and queries from HMRC addressed to your business. We read them, explain what is being asked and by when, and help you reply.
We work under supervision too
GHZ Accountants is AML supervised by AAT. These are rules we work within in our own practice, not only ones we advise on.
